An InstaPlant carpet bed is produced using the InstaPlant system, we design your ideas in your bed dimensions and produce your carpet bed to order and send it to you in pre-established tiles (like a jigsaw) to install onto a prepared bed.

Traditional carpet beds need to be planned, marked out using sand and the plants to be used need to be calculated and planted up individually into the ground or grown on into 7cm pots to ensure they survive in the ground. This can take many weeks for a team of skilled staff. The InstaPlant carpet beds are pre-planted into tiles and established in our nursery meaning that the installation will only take hours rather than weeks and the instant effect will make it look like the display has been growing there for months.

Carpet beds usually are displayed on a 30 - 45 degree slope. You may have to construct a bed where you want a carpet bed which in the case of a natural grass slope means cutting away an area of turf on a slope and levelling out the soil and raking the soil to a fine tilth. Or if the ground is flat, you may have to construct a slope using materials such as bricks, stone, railway sleepers or logs. The tiles will only need a 30cm depth of top soil to establish into so the main part of the slope can be filled with soil (or you could use any non-compressible and non-toxic material) with a layer of topsoil on top.

The price is based on the meterage ordered, £135/m2 with a £200 design per bed. For an example of the cost involved, a bed size covering 10m2 planted in summer carpet bedding is approximately £1550

If you are looking for a hardy display then we can produce a display in Sedums and Grasses and Euonymus that should last for 3 years if well maintained, the cost of this is £150/m2.

Most carpet bedding plants (3cm plugs) are planted at 400 plants/m2. The denisity increases when we plant small details within the design, can be as high as 800 plants/m2. The average planting density is 450 plants /m2.

The InstaPlant tiles are 30cm wide x 50cm long x 4cm deep. They can easily be handled by one person.

The cost of 3D displays is dependent on the size and the structure required. Prices start at £2500 delivered to site.

We need at least three months from order to produce a carpet bed, we need at least six months from order to produce a 3D display. If an order is required before this lead time we will look at this on an individual case basis.

Carpet Bedding is usually an annual planting that can be displayed from end of May when the frosts finish to the first frosts of winter at the end of October. If you have a hardy display then it can last through the winter into the next season, with general maintenance the display can last for 3 years then the plants can be removed and grown on individually.

Installation time is usually less than a day, for a team of 3 people (one to organise the trays on the ground and 2 to install the carpet bed) then it should take 4 hours to install 25m2.

The display is fairly low maintenance due to the plants being in pre-established in tiles. The tiles will hold more water than the soil below it and suppress the weeds below. Maintenance will be required such as trimming and watering when required, but the maintenance required is reduced.
