We were commissioned by Osborne House on the Isle of Wight to produce a carpet bedding scheme fit for a Queen. To celebrate 200 Years since the birth of Queen Victoria we produced four large carpet beds in the shape of circular segments. The carpet beds are all similar in design, a V for Victoria, an A for Prince Albert, a 200 logo with silhouettes of Victoria and Albert and a carpet bed with the dates 1819-2019. English Heritage have launched an exhibition and trail featuring birthday gifts shared between the couple at Osborne, many of which take the form of statues which are displayed around the garden. The design for our carpet bedding takes inspiration from decorative motifs from within Osborne House itself and uses the pictorial figureheads of Victoria and Albert. Gardens Supervisor Charlotte Lock said “In this special year for us the Osborne gardens team are delighted to be working with InstaPlant again to deliver our contribution to the 200th anniversary of the birth of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. It has been a fun experience for the whole team and an excellent opportunity for our younger members to learn a new skill. The delivery and off-loading worked a treat and the driver was very helpful and patient. We’ve given it the first trim and look forward to keeping it looking sharp throughout the season, again this is going to be a great new experience for our team, although some of us oldies remember the last time we had InstaPlant carpet bedding 18 years ago!”
The whole scheme has been really well received by the public who are fascinated to learn how the production and installation takes place, and of course this height of Victorian garden fashion fits perfectly into the seaside home of Queen Victoria. The carpet bed will be on display at Osborne until the end of October.
